“Block 15” is located on the northern part of the Camp Karaiskaki and during the German Occupation it used to be a place of isolation. The structure of the building, with large detention chambers and few windows, indicates that it was built to be a military prison.
The building consists of two floors. At the first one there is a large room, on the right and another on the left, each one was indented for over fifty prisoners, while the rest of the area were the isolation cells. The second floor has the same layout and the windows of the cells had to be high enough to avoid the prisoners to have contact with the outside environment.
In Block 15 detained those who were to be executed the next day. From this point started at dawn of the 1st May, the «200» from Kessariani, who were executed. The route that they followed was through the Rebels Camp of Haidari Street, where its name came from.
Since the late 1940s, the camp was used by the Greek army and at that period, the unique historical documents that the Rebels of the resistance had written on the walls and in other places were completely destroyed.
Every year on the first ten days of May, is organized an event of historical memory in cooperation with the Municipality of Kaisarianis and resistance groups, while “Block 15” has been declared a protected monument.
